Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24
My laptop as of 2008/01/20 no longer boots correctly without the "acpi=off" kernel parameter. Strangely, up until this point the laptop would boot just fine without this parameter, I don't recall a kernel update on that day, and previous kernels which used to work now require this parameter. I tested 2.6.24-4-generic, 2.6.24-3-generic, 2.6.22-14-generic. All of these kernels used to work without "acpi=off" and now all fail without it (which makes me suspect it's a initramfs- tools problem, but filing here because I'm not sure). When trying the various options suggested on «https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI» with the 2.6.24-4-generic kernel there is a common prefix to the terminal output, which I'll attach as a screenshot. Additionally, some options produce a single extra line of output which I'll replicate here: acpi=ht Works, but strangely - many of the later-starting daemons (hal, hddtemp, gdm) fail to start automatically pci=noacpi Fails: output ends with "Setting ELCR to 0ab8 (from 08b8)" acpi/noirq Fails: output ends with "Setting ELCR to 0ab8 (from 08b8)" pnpacpi=off Fails: no additional output noapic Fails: output ends with "Setting ELCR to 0200 (from 08b8)" nolapic Fails: output ends with "Setting ELCR to 0200 (from 08b8)" uname -a output: Linux CowboyLaputopu 2.6.24-4-generic #1 SMP Mon Jan 14 18:19:11 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Jan 21 12:25:43 2008 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 Package: linux-image-2.6.24-4-generic 2.6.24-4.7 [modified: lib/modules/2.6.24-4-generic/modules.pcimap lib/modules/2.6.24-4-generic/modules.dep lib/modules/2.6.24-4-generic/modules.ieee1394map lib/modules/2.6.24-4-generic/modules.usbmap lib/modules/2.6.24-4-generic/modules.isapnpmap lib/modules/2.6.24-4-generic/modules.seriomap lib/modules/2.6.24-4-generic/modules.alias lib/modules/2.6.24-4-generic/modules.symbols] PackageArchitecture: amd64 SourcePackage: linux Uname: Linux CowboyLaputopu 2.6.24-4-generic #1 SMP Mon Jan 14 18:19:11 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- [regression] Asus F3Jm fails to work correctly without acpi=off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184712 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
