Public bug reported:
Logitech Wireless Mouse M220 scroll wheel stopped working after
upgrading to kernel 6.17.0-23-generic.
The device is detected correctly and evtest shows REL_WHEEL as a
supported event, but no REL_WHEEL or REL_WHEEL_HI_RES events are emitted
when the scroll wheel is used. Only REL_X and REL_Y (cursor movement)
work correctly.
During initialization, dmesg shows the following errors before the device
connects:
logitech-hidpp-device: hidpp_root_get_protocol_version: received protocol
error 0x08
The device eventually connects as HID++ 4.5, but scroll wheel
functionality remains broken.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Connect Logitech M220 via USB Unifying Receiver
2. Boot into kernel 6.17.0-23-generic
3. Attempt to scroll — no response
4. Run evtest on the device and move the scroll wheel — no REL_WHEEL events
appear
Expected: REL_WHEEL events emitted on scroll
Actual: No scroll events, only REL_X/REL_Y
Kernel 6.17.0-22-generic works correctly with the same hardware and
configuration.
