What I expected to happen:
Keys should only repeat while physically held down. The repeat state should be
properly cleared when the key is released or when the window loses focus.
What happened instead:
Randomly, while using terminals (Ptyxis, Ghostty, and Guake), a key starts
repeating indefinitely even though I'm not holding it down.
Important observations:
- The repetition only happens while the terminal has focus.
- When I switch to another application (e.g. Firefox), the repetition stops
immediately.
- When I give focus back to the terminal, the repetition resumes.
- Pressing any other key stops the repetition.
- Restarting IBus (ibus exit && ibus-daemon -drx) temporarily fixes the issue.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Use Ubuntu 26.04 normally (especially terminals like Ptyxis, Guake or
Ghostty).
2. After some time (can be minutes or hours), a random key starts repeating
while the terminal has focus.
3. The repetition stops when losing focus and resumes when regaining focus.
Additional information:
- Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Gen 4 (AMD Ryzen AI PRO 7)
- Desktop: GNOME 50 (Wayland)
- Login: GDM with fingerprint authentication
