Public bug reported:
System Information:
OS: Ubuntu 26.04
Printer: Canon PIXMA G2020
Connection: USB
Printing system: CUPS
Printer configured using:
Driverless IPP (-m everywhere)
ipp-usb
Architecture: amd64
Problem Description:
The printer works correctly from:
Firefox/Chromium browser
GIMP
However:
GNOME Document Viewer hangs at:
“Getting printer information”
Okular aborts print jobs
The printer hardware and USB communication appear functional because
browser and raster/image printing work reliably. Important Note:
The official Canon Linux driver (cnijfilter2) was tested but was
unstable on Ubuntu 26.04:
printing sometimes worked only once
subsequent jobs stalled at “Getting printer data”
Using driverless IPP with ipp-usb is currently more stable.
Current Working Printer Configuration:
Printer URI:
ipp://localhost:60000/ipp/print
Model:
-m everywhere
Observed Behavior:
Browser Printing
PDFs print successfully
Images print successfully
GIMP Printing
Works correctly
Full-page image printing works
GNOME Document Viewer
Print dialog hangs indefinitely at:
“Getting printer information”
Okular
Print jobs abort immediately
Additional Information:
Plain text printing using:
lp /etc/hosts
works correctly.
Problem seems related to:
GTK/Qt print pipeline
PDF/vector rendering path
CUPS filter/backend interaction
Rasterized printing works reliably.
Expected Behavior:
GNOME Document Viewer and Okular should print PDFs normally, similar to browser
printing.
Possible Cause:
Possible regression or incompatibility in:
GTK print dialog
cups-filters
PDF rendering backend
IPP/CUPS integration on Ubuntu 26.04
Workarounds:
Printing through browser works
Printing through GIMP works
Converting PDFs to images before printing works
Impact:
Standard desktop PDF printing workflow is unreliable on Ubuntu 26.04 despite
the printer functioning correctly through browser and raster-based applications.
