Public bug reported:
== Summary ==
Kernel 7.0.0-15-generic causes a kernel panic with "System is deadlocked on
memory" message when the system attempts to suspend (S3/deep sleep).
Kernel 7.0.0-14-generic suspends and resumes correctly with identical hardware
and driver configuration.
== Hardware ==
Dell XPS 15 9560
CPU: Intel Core i7-7700HQ
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile (driver 580.142) + Intel HD Graphics 630
(i915)
RAM: 16 GB
== Steps to reproduce ==
1. Boot with kernel 7.0.0-15-generic
2. Initiate suspend via: systemctl suspend
3. System enters suspend (PM: suspend entry (s2idle or deep))
4. Kernel panic occurs — Caps Lock LED blinks, system does not resume
5. kdump captures the crash and reboots automatically
== Expected behavior ==
System suspends and resumes cleanly, as it does with kernel
7.0.0-14-generic.
== Actual behavior ==
Kernel panic: "System is deadlocked on memory" during suspend.
System cannot resume; requires hard reboot via kdump.
== Kernel parameters (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT) ==
mem_sleep_default=deep intel_iommu=on iommu=pt pci=noaer nmi_watchdog=1
== NVIDIA configuration ==
Driver: 580.142 (nvidia-driver-580)
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers-kms.conf:
options nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1
options nvidia NVreg_TemporaryFilePath=/var
nvidia-suspend.service: enabled
nvidia-resume.service: enabled
nvidia-hibernate.service: enabled
== Workaround ==
Booting with kernel 7.0.0-14-generic resolves the issue completely.
Current workaround: pinned 7.0.0-14-generic via apt-mark hold.
== Last kernel log entry before panic ==
kernel: PM: suspend entry (s2idle)
(system does not produce further journal entries — kdump triggers reboot)
