Yeah, probably you are right. my gcc ccommand is pointing now to gcc-16, and then I compiled the nvidia driver. It worked, but it was a simple test. Anyway, it's to add the possibility, it's not mandatory. Maybe instead of using alternatives, create a package with symlinks to the binaries, or maybe a almost meta-package that configures the alternatives, something like gcc-16-default that configures the alternatives to point to gcc-16. But again, it's to add a possibility that I think could be useful, no one should be obligated to use it if they don't want to.
