The mouse and display stop responding and the session becomes unusable. One deterministic reproducer was found which worked in at least 3 separate sessions, although it is not always reproducible in exactly the same way and is not always reliable: Open "LightDM GTK Greeter Settings" Press "Reload Settings" Close the window Press the Super key to open the XFCE Whisker menu System freezes Relevant kernel logs collected during the freeze: amdgpu 0000:78:00.0: [drm [amdgpu]] [PLANE:202] PSR FFU dirty rect size (1920, 1200) amdgpu 0000:78:00.0: [drm [amdgpu]] No reply for DMUB command: status=3 amdgpu 0000:78:00.0: [drm] ERROR dc_dmub_srv_log_diagnostic_data: DMCUB error - collecting diagnostic data This appears related to AMD Display Core / DMUB behavior, possibly involving PSR (Panel Self Refresh) and/or compositor redraws. - - Additional observation: - - Testing with the kernel parameter: - amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x400 - - appears to reduce or prevent the freezes so far, although more testing - is needed as the issue is intermittent before adding this kernel - parameter.
