Public bug reported:
On Ubuntu 26.04 GNOME Wayland, GNOME Shell sometimes enters a state
where icons disappear from Quick Settings/top-right menu and from search
results in the overview. Pressing screenshot shortcut during this state
caused the visible screen to freeze for around 10-15 seconds while I was
still able to move the mouse. After the freeze, icons returned.
This happened on kernel 6.19.10, and kernel/DRM logs were clean: no
amdgpu flip_done, commit wait, REG_WAIT, GPU reset, or ring timeout
errors.
Logs show GNOME Shell repeatedly printing:
"Error: Timeout was reached"
This started around 16:50:31 and continued until 16:51:27. The
screenshot was taken at 16:51:11, during the timeout storm.
Just before the timeouts, GNOME Shell activated search providers:
- org.gnome.Settings.SearchProvider
- org.gnome.Calculator.SearchProvider
- org.gnome.Characters
- org.gnome.clocks
- org.gnome.seahorse.Application
There are also repeated gpg-agent/scdaemon errors and gnome-software
timeout messages in the same window.
This looks like GNOME Shell/search-provider/D-Bus timeout state
corruption rather than a kernel/AMDGPU problem.
