Public bug reported:

Version: 1.5.0-14-0ubuntu1

There seems to be duplicated Provides field for sun-java5-jre in
debian/control{,.in} which causes sun-java5-jre not to provide java-
virtual-machine as the latter one is missing this information. This is
causing problems at least for ant:

$ sudo aptitude install
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading extended state information
Initializing package states... Done
Building tag database... Done
The following packages are BROKEN:
  ant
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ant: Depends: java-gcj-compat-dev but it is not installable or
java-virtual-machine which is a virtual package.

** Affects: sun-java5 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
