Public bug reported:

Summary
-------
[regression][6.17.0-29][md/raid5] Repeated crash reboots after update; one boot
captured:
kernel BUG at drivers/md/raid5.c:274

Impact
------
System is unstable/unusable on 6.17.0-29-generic (frequent crash/reboot events).
System is stable when booted into older kernel 6.17.0-23-generic.

Environment
-----------
Distro: Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS (Noble)
Kernel bad: 6.17.0-29-generic
Kernel good: 6.17.0-23-generic (also previously stable on 6.17.0-22-generic)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Storage: multiple disks with md RAID5 arrays (md0 and md1), md1
reconstruction/resync active during affected boots

Regression window
-----------------
- Last known good long-running boot:
  6.17.0-22-generic from 2026-05-01 08:28 EDT to 2026-05-16 10:13 EDT
- 6.17.0-29 installed via apt on:
  2026-05-16 10:11 (local time)
- First bad boot:
  2026-05-16 10:15 EDT on 6.17.0-29-generic
- Multiple crash-ended boots followed on 6.17.0-29-generic
- Booting 6.17.0-23-generic restored stability

Observed crash evidence
-----------------------
From journal of boot index -6 (2026-05-16 12:41:37 -> 12:41:56 EDT), kernel
6.17.0-29-generic:

May 16 12:41:56 ... ------------[ cut here ]------------
May 16 12:41:56 ... kernel BUG at drivers/md/raid5.c:274!

In same boot, md arrays were activated and md1 reconstruction started shortly
before the BUG:
- md/raid:md1: not clean -- starting background reconstruction
- md: resync of RAID array md1

Boot timeline (recent)

  0  6.17.0-23  2026-05-16 15:15 -> present (stable)

What I already tried
--------------------
- Selected older kernel from GRUB (6.17.0-23-generic): stable.
- Did not apply tuning/workarounds to mdadm/RAID settings yet.

Request
-------
Please triage as a regression in 6.17.0-29 affecting md/raid5 path, with BUG at
drivers/md/raid5.c:274.
If needed, I can provide additional logs for specific boot IDs and mdadm detail
output.

Comment
-------
- I did not file using 'ubuntu-bug linux' because I cannot boot with the
problematic kernel and I didn't want to submit a bug under a working kernel.
