My Strix laptop running Ubuntu 24.x just showed X across both laptop and
external monitor when I tried to unlock the screen this morning. Try to
update the drivers via sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall and rebooted as
found in forums. New updated kernel sent me to the intrafs console
login for busybox for the latest kernel. That's the default Ubuntu on
the boot loader so I'm trying to get the external monitor to be seen
(with an nvidia card) or at this point I don't care if the nvidia card
is used at all since I just have a work critical project that needs to
get done today and this is also my MAIN WORK MACHINE.
When I boot into lower releases / kernels (the second one down on my
boot loader below 'Ubuntu', and select previous builds, I can get into
my Gnome desktop but I still can't see my external monitor (doesn't
recognize anything is plugged in when HDMI cable is plugged in and out).
Afraid to do anything that might make my only work laptop completely
unusable (like it is when I now just use the Ubuntu item on my
bootloader).
Anyway, been using Linux for over 20+ years and I appreciate what
everyone does in the community, but this work stoppage stings.
