Public bug reported:
Since Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (noble), the package has contained an invalid
file named evolution-data-server.mo. In particular, the calendar in
Evolution has since been either missing or translated into German in a
strange way.
As far as I can tell, 26.04 LTS (resolute) also contains this incorrect
file.
If I download the evolution-data-server-common package from Debian, extract
this file from it, and place it either in
/usr/share/locale-langpack/de/LC_MESSAGES/ or
/usr/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/, my Evolution displays German correctly. The
file is also significantly larger than the one in the Ubuntu package.
I know that /usr/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/ is used by Debian and
/usr/share/locale-langpack/de/LC_MESSAGES/ by Ubuntu. I placed the language
file in the former, where it is overwritten by the package manager. I will
delete this file as soon as a version of this package is available that
contains the correct language file.
