Thanks, Daniel. That is useful context. In that case, the important part of this bug may not be “direct users to 470-server”, but rather:
1. The normal `nvidia-driver-470` path currently appears to resolve to 535 on Jammy. 2. For a GTX 760 / Kepler card, 535 is not a usable replacement because the driver explicitly ignores the GPU. 3. `470-server` currently works on this Jammy / Mint 21.3 system, but if the `-server` package in `-proposed` may also become transitional, then it should not be documented as a permanent fix without a warning. 4. Users with affected hardware need clear guidance before updates leave them in fallback graphics or with an unsupported driver branch. So the practical question becomes: Should Jammy users with Kepler GPUs be expected to move to nouveau, pin/hold an existing 470 package, use a maintained repack such as your PPA, or avoid the transitional packages until bug 2152202 is resolved? I can confirm that on this GTX 760 system, blocking 535 and installing the current `470-server` packages restored a working NVIDIA stack: ```text Kernel driver in use: nvidia driver: nvidia v: 470.256.02 X loaded: nvidia OpenGL renderer: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 nvidia-driver-470-server Installed: 470.256.02-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 ``` But based on your note, I agree this workaround should be treated as fragile if the `-server` transition is also pending. Small clarification: bug 2152202 appears to be an Exim security tracking bug, not an NVIDIA packaging bug. Did you mean bug 2110338, or another NVIDIA 470 / 470-server bug? Also understood that 470-server may not be a permanent workaround if the -server packages in -proposed are also being made transitional. That makes the Jammy/Kepler situation more fragile, since the normal nvidia- driver-470 path resolves toward 535, while 535 does not support the GTX 760. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2155424 Title: Question: nvidia-driver-470 on Jammy resolves to 535 on GTX 760; should users be directed to 470-server instead?
