To get the system back into a usable state:

sudo dpkg-statoverride --remove /var/log/chrony
sudo dpkg-statoverride --remove /var/lib/chrony
sudo dpkg-statoverride --remove /etc/chrony/chrony.keys

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Installed a chroot, tried to install more packages, fail:

  dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
unknown system group '_chrony' in statoverride file; the system group got
removed
before the override, which is most probably a packaging bug, to recover you
can remove the override manually with dpkg-statoverride
Error: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
