Public bug reported:

Since upgrading oem-sutton-daiwa-meta from 24.04~ubuntu1 to 24.04ubuntu2
on 2026-06-11 (which pulled in linux-image-6.17.0-1025-oem
6.17.0-1025.25), the system freezes completely within 30-95 minutes of
booting. The previous kernel had no crashes.

The system experienced 4 crashes on 2026-06-12 alone. Each crash follows
the same pattern: the amdgpu MES firmware stops responding, the ring
buffer fills up, and the entire system becomes unresponsive (no cursor
movement, no SSH, hard reset required).

Kernel messages before each freeze:

amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES failed to respond to msg=MISC (WAIT_REG_MEM)
amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: failed to reg_write_reg_wait
amdgpu 0000:c4:00.0: amdgpu: MES ring buffer is full. [repeats ~30 times
until freeze]
xhci_hcd 0000:c4:00.4: xHCI host controller not responding, assume dead
Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 AMD, AMD Rembrandt GPU (PCI ID 1002:1114
rev d2)

Kernel module parameters at time of crash: amdgpu.mes=0,
amdgpu.mes_kiq=0, amdgpu.gpu_recovery=-1, amdgpu.runpm=-1 (all defaults,
no custom parameters set)

Workaround: Booting linux-image-6.8.0-1032-oem avoids the crash, but the
amdgpu driver fails to probe entirely on that kernel (Fatal error during
GPU init, error -22), leaving the system without external display
support.
