Problem:
Ubuntu boots to a black screen when using normal graphics initialization. The
system only boots successfully when using Safe Graphics or adding `nomodeset`.
Expected Result:
Ubuntu should boot normally and use the Intel UHD Graphics driver with hardware
acceleration.
Actual Result:
System reaches the Ubuntu logo and then the display becomes black. Caps Lock
still responds, indicating the system may still be running.
Tested:
* Ubuntu 24.04 Live USB
* Ubuntu 26.04 Live USB
* Ubuntu 26.04 installed system
* Linux 7.0.0-14-generic
* Linux 7.0.0-22-generic
* Linux 7.0.0-1005-oem
* Safe Graphics mode
* nomodeset
* i915.modeset=1
* i915.enable_psr=0
* i915.enable_dc=0
Results:
* All normal boot methods result in a black screen.
* Safe Graphics and nomodeset boot successfully.
* GPU is detected correctly as Intel Tiger Lake-LP GT2 [UHD Graphics G4]
(8086:9a78).
* modprobe i915 returns "No such device".
* modprobe xe returns "No such device".
* inxi -Gxx reports:
* driver: N/A
* renderer: llvmpipe
* No Intel graphics acceleration is available when booted with nomodeset.
Additional Notes:
Windows on the same hardware works normally with Intel UHD Graphics and
brightness control functioning correctly, suggesting the hardware itself is
operational.
