Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble)
BIOS: G513RM.327 (02/16/2023)
Problem:
After kernel update to 6.17.0-35-generic on June 16 2026, the MT7922 WiFi PCIe
card completely disappears from lspci. Previously working on kernel with driver
mt7921e as interface wlo1.
What was working before (kern.log evidence):
mt7921e 0000:02:00.0: ASIC revision: 79220010
mt7921e 0000:02:00.0 wlo1: renamed from wlan0
What happens now:
lspci shows no WiFi/MediaTek device
sudo dmesg | grep mt7921e returns nothing
asus-nb-wmi no longer exposes /sys/devices/platform/asus-nb-wmi/wlan control
Turning off Bluetooth triggers airplane mode (kills entire WiFi+BT chip)
rfkill unblock all and PCI rescan do not restore the device
Problem persists across all available kernels: 6.17.0-35, 6.17.0-29, 6.14.0-37
ASUS WMI info:
asus_wmi: SFUN value: 0x1821
asus-nb-wmi: Detected ATK, not ASUSWMI, use DSTS
fan_curve_get_factory_default (0x00110032) failed: -19
Steps to reproduce:
Run ASUS/Ubuntu firmware update on ASUS ROG G513RM
Reboot
Run lspci | grep -i mediatek — returns nothing
Run sudo dmesg | grep mt7921e — returns nothing
Expected behavior:
MT7922 WiFi card should appear on PCI bus and be claimed by mt7921e driver as
wlo1
Workaround:
None found. USB tethering required for internet access.
