System: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS running under X11.
Issue: The graphical pop-up "Important updates installed" (Wichtige
Aktualisierungen wurden installiert) appears on every single desktop
login.
Verified States on this machine:
- The file /var/lib/update-notifier/updates-available is completely empty (0
bytes).
- Unattended-upgrades are completely disabled.
- Ubuntu Pro / Livepatch is attached and active, but show-livepatch-status-icon
is set to false.
- The file /var/lib/PackageKit/offline-update-completed does not exist.
- Clearing ~/.cache/gnome-software and resetting GNOME notification settings
via gsettings did not stop the pop-up.
- According to xlsclients -l, the processes update-notifier and gnome-software
are active when the message is shown, even though there are no pending or newly
installed packages.
The update-notifier triggers the pop-up incorrectly despite empty source
data files.
