Public bug reported:
[ Summary ]
We would like to discuss updating the bluez package in Ubuntu 26.04
LTS(Resolute Raccoon) from the current 5.85-4 to the upstream 5.86 microrelease.
[ Background ]
- 26.04 (Resolute Raccoon, released): bluez 5.85-4
- Upstream bluez 5.86 was released on 2026-02-08.
[ Impact ]
Qualcomm's internal BlueZ codebase is based on 5.86, and all of our bug fixes,
certification, and qualification work are done on this version. So 5.86 is the
most thoroughly fixed, tested, and validated baseline for this platform, while
26.04 currently ships 5.85.
Aligning 26.04 with 5.86 gives users a more stable and better-validated
Bluetooth stack:
- Fixes in connectivity, authentication, and audio.
- Broader certification and qualification coverage, focused on 5.86.
- Support for newer Bluetooth features and profiles.
[ Other Info]
bluez is open source. After Qualcomm's bug fixes and new feature development
are upstreamed, they need to be brought into Ubuntu. How should bluez patches
be maintained between Qualcomm and Canonical going forward? Our proposal is
that Qualcomm provides the patches and Canonical integrates them into Ubuntu.
Please let us know if this works for you or if you would suggest a different
approach.
** Affects: bluez (Ubuntu)
