Thanks for the bug report. Please tell us what Ubuntu release this
affects and start by removing local extensions if any:
cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
rm -rf extensions
and then log in again.
Removing extensions is the first thing to try because so many bugs are
caused by extensions and a buggy extension can interfere with the lock
screen. For this reason, gnome-shell tries to unload extensions when
locking and reload them when unlocking, but the procedure is voluntary
to extensions and still relies on them not being buggy.
