I have a similar problem: Configured my second screen to display a clone
of my main screen, which caused the main screens resolution to be "out
of bounds" (I could scroll around to find the borders of the resolution
with the mouse). Displayconfig-gtk won't start after this setup. I get
this from the terminal:

Please help - It's not that i can't work on my desktop, but it looks
like crap :s
