In Ubuntu 26.04, verified that updating the ubuntu-desktop-minimal
metapackage installs the thumbnailers:

Start-Date: 2026-07-06 15:00:06
Commandline: apt install ubuntu-desktop-minimal -t resolute-proposed
Requested-By: aleasto (1000)
Install: gst-video-thumbnailer:amd64 (1.0.0-0ubuntu1, automatic),
gst-audio-thumbnailer:amd64 (1.0.0-0ubuntu1, automatic)
Upgrade: ubuntu-standard:amd64 (1.570, 1.570.1), ubuntu-desktop-minimal:amd64
(1.570, 1.570.1), ubuntu-kernel-accessories:amd64 (1.570, 1.570.1),
ubuntu-minimal:amd64 (1.570, 1.570.1)
End-Date: 2026-07-06 15:00:08

In the Files app, navigating to a directory with one mp4 and one mp3
file (with embedded cover art) now shows the thumbnails, *without* the
need to delete the thumbnail cache first.
