Public bug reported:

On a Dell Precision 5690 (Ubuntu-certified hardware; Core Ultra 7 165H
Meteor Lake, board 088TDK, BIOS 1.23.0, Ubuntu 24.04 + HWE kernel
6.14.0-37-generic), the internal microphone (sof-soundwire card,
topology sof-mtl-rt713-l0-rt1316-l12-rt1713-l3, Realtek SoundWire codecs
025d:0713 / 2x 025d:1316 / 025d:1713) intermittently produces pure full-
scale click/impulse-train garbage instead of audio.

Key findings from systematic testing (full details and quantified data
in the upstream reports below):

* The failed state is sticky at the hardware level: it survives stream reopen,
suspend/resume, WARM REBOOT, and a full unload/reload of the entire SOF +
SoundWire + codec kernel module chain. Only a cold power-off clears it.
* A working microphone can flip into the failed state at runtime when the audio
topology reconfigures (reproduced by unplugging a USB audio device).
* Reproduced on SOF firmware 2.13.0.1 and 2.14.1.1 — both affected. Mic-mute
hotkey state has no effect. Both S16_LE and S32_LE affected; corruption visible
in direct ALSA hw capture (below PipeWire).
* Windows on the same machine always records correctly, so the hardware is
healthy — correct handling of this board is achievable in software.
* Because kernel updates always warm-reboot, the bad state rides across updates
— producing the widely-reported (and misleading) "mic works or breaks depending
on kernel version" pattern on these machines.

Upstream reports:
* https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/issues/10988 (my full report, active)
* https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/issues/9852 (earlier report on the same
model, closed as "OEM-related" — the SOF team notes they lack access to Dell
board integration details)

Since this machine is Ubuntu-certified and the SOF project has pointed
at OEM/board integration, this seems squarely in scope for Canonical's
OEM/hardware-enablement work with Dell. Happy to run diagnostics, test
kernels/patches, and capture the failed state on request (I can enter it
semi-on-demand and clear it deterministically).
