Thanks for the pointer — this machine had missed the HWE rollover (a February DKMS failure had removed the linux-generic-hwe-24.04 metapackage; fixed now).
I have retested everything on the current supported HWE kernel, 6.17.0-35-generic (Ubuntu 24.04.4), same hardware (Precision 5690, BIOS 1.23.0). All findings reproduce identically to 6.14: 1. The dell-privacy::micmute LED class device remains nonfunctional in both directions. With the physical mic-mute LED lit (EC muted), brightness still reads 0. Writing 0 or 1 to brightness (as root) is accepted and retained by the sysfs file but never changes the physical LED. 2. The hardware mute key toggles the EC state (visible in the dell_privacy_current_state WMI attribute, GUID 6932965F-1671-4CEB-B988-D3AB0A901919) and the physical LED. The desktop environment independently toggles PipeWire's software mute on the same keypress. These two paths have no coupling in either direction. 3. Because of (2), the inverted state reproduces on 6.17 exactly as reported: with EC muted and software mute off, capture delivers pure zeros while every visible desktop indicator shows a live microphone. My userspace workaround (poll the WMI state, mirror it into PipeWire) is still required on 6.17. Since the issue is not specific to a kernel series, could you retarget this to a supported package (linux-hwe-6.17, or the generic linux package)? I'm happy to provide fresh logs from 6.17 if useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2160389 Title: Dell Precision 5690: dell-privacy::micmute LED is nonfunctional; hardware/software mic-mute states can invert into a "microphone permanently dead" deadlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe-6.14/+bug/2160389/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
