I apologise, when I created #2051917, I didn't find this one.

This one is very old bug and I feel the description is not detailed
enough. As I miss this feature for a very long time, I want to put it
into perspective.

My mailbox grows to ~1 GB every year. It is too much, so I archive them
to DVD in a single ZIP file.

When I want to search in old emails, I do a painstaking process with
juggling between the current and old mailboxes. I need to take extra
steps to prevent new mails to be downloaded into the old profile,
preventing my filters to take actions when I don't want to, etc.

In order to have access to my old mails, I would like to do this:
- mount many (>10) ZIP files from previous years into ThunderBird. (these files
can be on DVD, NAS, whatever).
- search in all of the old archives at the same time
- when I shut down TB today and restart it tomorrow, I still want to keep the
old mounts.

Meanwhile, my current profile should remain small, as it needs to
contains only the newer emails since the last archive. That is, copying
all the old mails into the current profile is not what I need.
