As I said on Discourse [1], autoremove does not remove orphaned packages. All it does is removing packages marked as automatically installed on which no other installed package has a dependency. Removing orphaned packages is not straight forward, but not that hard either. [2] Plus, packages from 3rd parties that overlap or replace Ubuntu versions with newer ones should be downgraded. If they are from PPA sources, exclusively, use ppa-purge [3], if not you'll have to take matters into your own hands; see my suggestion. [4] Until proven otherwise, I'll say this is an invalid report.
