Public bug reported:
[ Impact ]
* When the UKUI panel is placed at the bottom of the screen, the
invisible edge gesture window overlaps the panel's bottom-right Show
Desktop area. Mouse clicks are received by the gesture window instead
of the panel, so users cannot activate Show Desktop from the extreme
bottom-right corner.
* The gesture window can also overlap the panel when the panel is placed
on the same screen edge. This may cause input intended for the panel
to be intercepted by ukui-sidebar.
* This affects ukui-sidebar 4.20.1.3-0ubuntu1 in Ubuntu 26.04
(Resolute Raccoon). Backporting the fix restores the expected panel
behavior for users who place the panel at the bottom or on the same
edge as the sidebar gesture area.
* The upload makes the gesture window monitor the panel position and
size. For a top or bottom panel, the panel area is excluded from the
gesture window. When the panel occupies the same edge as the gesture
window, the gesture window is hidden.
[ Test Plan ]
* Reproduce the bottom-panel problem with the current package:
1. Install ukui-sidebar 4.20.1.3-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 26.04.
2. Log in to an UKUI desktop session using a left-to-right locale.
3. Open the panel settings and place the panel at the bottom of the
primary screen.
4. Open one or more application windows so that the desktop is
covered.
5. Move the pointer to the extreme bottom-right corner of the screen.
6. Click the Show Desktop area.
7. Verify that the desktop is not shown.
* Verify the bottom-panel fix:
1. Enable resolute-proposed and install
ukui-sidebar 4.20.1.3-0ubuntu1.1.
2. Log out and log back in to the UKUI session.
3. Place the panel at the bottom of the primary screen.
4. Open one or more application windows.
5. Move the pointer to the extreme bottom-right corner and click.
6. Verify that the desktop is shown.
7. Click the same area again and verify that the application windows
are restored, if this is the configured Show Desktop behavior.
8. Change the panel size and repeat the test.
9. Verify that the Show Desktop action continues to work without
restarting ukui-sidebar.
* Verify the same-edge conflict:
1. In a left-to-right desktop session, place the panel on the right
edge of the primary screen.
2. Verify that panel buttons and other controls remain usable,
including controls near the top and bottom of the panel.
3. Move the panel away from the right edge.
4. Verify that the right-edge gesture can still open the control
center.
5. Move the panel back to the right edge and verify that the panel
remains usable.
6. If a right-to-left desktop environment is available, repeat the
test with the panel on the left edge.
* Perform additional regression testing:
1. Test the panel at the top, bottom, left and right edges.
2. Change the panel position while ukui-sidebar is running and verify
that the gesture area updates immediately.
3. Change the panel size while ukui-sidebar is running and verify that
the gesture area does not overlap the panel.
4. Verify that the edge gesture continues to work whenever the panel
does not occupy the same edge.
5. If multiple monitors are available, repeat the tests on the primary
screen.
[ Where problems could occur ]
* The upload changes the geometry and visibility of the invisible edge
gesture window. If the panel position or size is interpreted
incorrectly, the gesture window could still cover part of the panel
or could leave part of the screen edge without gesture handling.
* The gesture window is updated when the panel position or size changes.
A regression in this update handling could leave the gesture window
at its previous position until ukui-sidebar or the desktop session is
restarted.
* When the panel occupies the same edge as the gesture window, the
gesture window is hidden. Incorrect visibility handling could leave
it hidden after the panel is moved away, preventing users from opening
the control center with the edge gesture.
* The conflicting edge depends on the desktop layout direction.
Incorrect LTR or RTL handling could hide the gesture window on the
wrong edge or allow it to overlap the panel.
* The geometry is based on the primary-screen coordinates. An incorrect
calculation could be visible as misplaced or unavailable gesture
handling in multi-monitor configurations.
