This affects me as well, and it might be fixed in Linux 7.2. Here is the mainline commit that needs to be backported:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?id=062499cc4813b5a3cbed5dd4fbe0177265858450 Came across this in the Ubuntu Community Discourse that looks very much like my issue: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/laptop-screen-having-trouble-turning-on- after-sleep-being-off/81112 More relevant bug reports and discussions from Intel developers: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/i915/kernel/-/work_items/16042 https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/i915/kernel/-/work_items/16098 Issues also affect other distros: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=313680 https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=313469 I have spent multiple hours trying to identify and fix the issue, with assistance from different AI providers. None of the proposed solutions have worked (like disabling power saving features for i915 in GRUB). I am using a HP ZBook Fury G1i laptop with hybrid graphics (Intel ARL and NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell Genereation). Kernel version 7.0.0-27-generic and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.
