Public bug reported:
System
Laptop: HP ProBook 450 G7
Ubuntu: (insert your Ubuntu version, e.g. 24.04.3 LTS)
Issue
After installing the 6.17.0-40-generic kernel through normal system
updates and rebooting, several devices stopped functioning:
Wi-Fi unavailable (Intel Dual Band Wireless adapter detected but not functional)
Ethernet unavailable (Realtek RTL8111 controller detected but no network
connectivity)
HDMI external display not detected
Internal touchpad not detected
An external USB mouse continued to work normally.
Expected behavior
All hardware should function normally after booting the updated kernel.
Observed behavior
Multiple hardware components become unusable only when booting
6.17.0-40-generic.
Regression
Booting the previous kernel (6.17.0-35-generic) immediately restores:
Wi-Fi
Ethernet
HDMI output
Internal touchpad
This strongly indicates a regression introduced in 6.17.0-40-generic.
I also observed ACPI BIOS messages during boot, but the system works
correctly under 6.17.0-35-generic.
I am unable to test everything else. Please check if there are any other
errors noteable.
