I sended a mail to the ubuntu-devel mailing list and a ubuntu developers
answered that we're not using vesafb and we have not for quite a while.
So the Fabio Papa suggestion does not seem to be a solution. It also
confirm the fact that this bug only happens with Geforce 8xxx because
one developer has a Geforce 7600GS and doesn't have this problem with
64bit.

** Summary changed:

- [EM64T]When booting, screen stays black.
+ [EM64T + nvidia 8xxx]When booting, screen stays black.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: usplash

I have a fresh install of Gutsy Gibbon Beta, on an EM64T architecture. The
problem is that after selecting the GRUB menu entry to boot Ubuntu, the screen
turns black and does not show nothing again.
In order to boot Ubuntu, I have to edit the boot options and change "splash"
to "nosplash".
+
+ Saïvann : This bug has been seen on a lot of nvidia Geforce 8 but
+ doesn't seem to happen with Geforce 7 and older nvidia.
