** Description changed: [ Impact ] The HWE kernel in Noble will soon transition to 7.0. That kernel comes with drivers that need firmware which is not currently present in Noble's linux-firmware. The kernel/drivers might not function properly as a result of that. [ Fix ] Add missing firmware for kernel 7.0. [ Test Case ] Manual review of changes only. The update will bring in lots of - firmwares for all kinds of drivers and hardware that we don't have at + firmwares for all kinds of drivers and hardware that we don't have in hand, so no real testing is possible. [ Where Problems Could Occur ] As always with firmware, problems can show up at boot when firmware is loaded or anytime at runtime when firmware is exercised. Symptoms: Kernel crashes, hangs, stalls, stack traces, performance degradation, connectivity issues, and many more. These changes should *not* affect users of the GA 6.8 kernel. [ Notes ] This bug is specifically for missing firmwares for kernel 7.0 and doesn't address the fact that some currently existing firmware might be too old for kernel 7.0. This bug is *not* update updating such firmware.
