Public bug reported:

On the same ASUS VivoBook N580GD (X580GD) system as bug #2161183 (backlight
writes have
no physical effect on 7.0.0-28), suspend/resume has a more severe manifestation:

1. Boot linux-image-7.0.0-28-generic (HWE, noble-updates), Kubuntu 24.04.4,
Plasma 5.27 X11.
2. `systemctl suspend` — system enters S3 normally ("PM: suspend entry (deep)",
   nvidia-suspend.service runs fine).
3. Wake the machine (power button / lid).

Result: kernel resumes ("ACPI: PM: Low-level resume complete"), the system is
fully
functional — network reconnects, compositor and shell keep running, keyboard
input is
processed (rfkill hotkey toggles work and are logged) — but the internal eDP
panel never
lights up again. No image at all. VT switching (Ctrl+Alt+F2) does not help.
Notably, the
journal contains NO i915 display re-initialization messages and no i915/drm
errors after
resume — the display path appears to be silently skipped. Hard power-off is the
only way
out for a user without SSH access.

On kernel 6.17.0-40-generic suspend/resume works flawlessly on the same
system.

Given bug #2161183 (backlight control writes accepted but physically ignored on
the same
kernel/panel), both issues look like the same underlying regression in the i915
panel
power/backlight control path for this CoffeeLake + eDP configuration.

Attachment: journal excerpt of the affected boot from just before suspend until
the
forced power-off (attachment-resume-blackscreen-journal.txt).
