Public bug reported:

I am using an ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 X3500PC/K3500PC running Linux Mint
22.3, based on Ubuntu 24.04.

Affected package:
linux

Current kernel:
7.0.0-28-generic

Kernel package:
linux-image-7.0.0-28-generic
Version: 7.0.0-28.28~24.04.1
Origin: official Ubuntu noble-updates/main and noble-security/main repositories
Maintainer: Canonical Kernel Team

Hardware:
ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 X3500PC/K3500PC

BIOS:
X3500PC.302

BIOS 302 is the latest BIOS currently available from ASUS for this
model.

The ACPI errors have occurred since I started using Linux on this
machine. This is not a recent regression caused by kernel 7.0.

During every boot, the kernel reports repeated ACPI AE_NOT_FOUND errors
involving undefined firmware symbols and thermal-zone methods.

Representative errors include:

ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Could not resolve symbol [\CTDP], AE_NOT_FOUND

ACPI Error: Aborting method _SB.IETM.IDSP due to previous error
(AE_NOT_FOUND)

ACPI Error: Aborting method _SB.IETM._OSC due to previous error
(AE_NOT_FOUND)

The following thermal-zone objects under:

_SB.PC00.LPCB.EC0.SEN1
_SB.PC00.LPCB.EC0.SEN2
_SB.PC00.LPCB.EC0.SEN3
_SB.PC00.LPCB.EC0.SEN4

also fail when evaluating these methods:

_CRT
_HOT
_PSV
_AC0

Examples include unresolved symbols such as:

S1CT, S1HT, S1PT, S1AT
S2CT, S2HT, S2PT, S2AT
S3CT, S3HT, S3PT
S4CT, S4HT, S4PT, S4AT

Observed thermal-zone readings include:

acpitz: approximately 43°C
TCPU: approximately 41°C
x86_pkg_temp: approximately 42°C
SEN2: approximately 42°C
SEN4: approximately 40°C

However, SEN1 and SEN3 report invalid readings of approximately 0.1°C.

The system remains operational:

* thermald is active and running
* CPU fan control works
* CPU temperatures are normal
* NVMe temperatures are normal
* NVIDIA and Intel graphics drivers work
* there are no PCIe AER errors
* there are no NVMe errors
* there are no reported memory errors
* suspend and general power management appear to work normally

thermald reports:

sensor id 14: No temp sysfs for reading raw temp
Polling mode is enabled

This appears to be caused by malformed or incomplete ACPI firmware
tables in ASUS BIOS 302. I am reporting it because the kernel may be
able to add a model-specific quirk or provide better handling of the
invalid thermal-zone definitions.

Expected result:

The firmware ACPI tables should be parsed without repeated AE_NOT_FOUND
errors, and invalid SEN1/SEN3 thermal readings should either be ignored
or handled safely.

Actual result:

Repeated ACPI BIOS errors are logged on every boot, and two thermal
zones expose invalid 0.1°C readings.
