@norrit: I already agreed with you that they should do better with maintaining their -dkms packages. If that's not good enough for you, go take it up with Ubuntu devs on Ubuntu Discourse or wherever. I am not the one to talk to, and this is not the place for a big, theoretical discussion about the relationship between HWE kernels and -dkms packages. This is a bug report dealing with virtualbox. Focus on that.
And yes, I offered a workaround of using Oracle's package instead of Ubuntu's. That seems practical to me, and to the people I've suggested it to on various forums. Falling back to 6.8 kernel might be a bit ridiculous, but that was in response to a user complaining about "opting in" to the HWE kernels.
