Public bug reported:
HP ZBook 15 G4 (CX8200 audio codec, subsystem ID 103c82d4)
Mute key LED does not update to reflect mute state under Linux,
though it works correctly in Windows 10.
Diagnostic findings:
- Mute key press correctly detected via ACPI: "button/mute MUTE 00000080"
- dmesg shows: hp_wmi: query 0x4 returned error 0x5
- DSDT decompile shows mute key routes through EC method _Q02:

- This calls into the WMIV WMI device via GVWE (Get/Set WMI Event)
- hp_wmi driver appears to fail this specific query (0x4) on this firmware,
preventing the LED update from completing
- No LED found under /sys/class/leds/ for mute
- Audio codec (Conexant CX8200) GPIO pins tested manually via hda-verb,
no LED response — confirms LED is not codec-driven
