Dear Ubuntu Kernel Team,

I am reporting a hardware regression in the 7.0.0-28-generic kernel that
breaks ACPI lid switch events and system suspension on my ASUS laptop.

The system functions flawlessly on the previous 7.0.0-27-generic kernel,
but updating to .28 results in a total failure of the lid sensor to
trigger the suspend state.

Hardware Specifications:

    Machine: ASUS VivoBook S15-X510UF

    Graphics: Dual Graphics (Intel + NVIDIA) configured in "On-Demand"
mode (NVIDIA driver 580).

    BIOS: Secure Boot is enabled (MOK enrolled properly for DKMS
modules).

Steps to Reproduce on 7.0.0-28:

    Boot into 7.0.0-28-generic.

    Close the laptop lid.

    Wait 15–30 seconds.

    Open the laptop lid.

Expected Behavior (Works perfectly on 7.0.0-27):
The system should initiate a deep sleep when the lid is closed. Upon opening 
the lid, the backlight should restore and the system should display the GNOME 
lock/password screen.

Actual Behavior on 7.0.0-28:
The system entirely ignores the hardware lid close event. It does not enter 
[deep] sleep. The Intel graphics chip kills the backlight, but because the 
kernel aborts or ignores the suspend command, the backlight never turns back on 
when the lid is reopened. The laptop remains fully awake with a completely dim 
(zombie) screen, requiring a hard reboot.

Troubleshooting Undertaken:

    The issue is not the desktop environment. Software locks (pressing
Super + L) work perfectly, lock the screen, and wake up normally.

    The issue is not a DKMS failure. I forced a complete rebuild of the
nvidia-dkms-580 modules specifically for the .28 kernel, enrolled the
MOK via MOKManager, and verified the build was successful.

    Checked /sys/power/mem_sleep to ensure [deep] was selected.

Because .27 successfully routes the ACPI lid commands to the hardware
and properly sleeps, but .28 completely fails, this is a clear kernel
code regression affecting ASUS VivoBook lid sensors or dual-graphics
sleep state handoffs.

I have temporarily purged .28 and placed it on hold to maintain a
working system on .27. Please let me know if you need me to reproduce
the issue on .28 to pull specific journalctl logs.
