Binary package hint: xfonts-utils
I seem to get this unsightly message for every font package I install
(twice, even):
warning: /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc does not exist or is not a directory
Some googling pointed to a font path change between Edgy and Feisty (?)
or more specifically with the switch to X11R7. It seems that "update-
fonts-dir --x11r7-layout" has been changed, but only partially; it still
attempts to scan an old location, and thus issues a warning when it
cannot find the specified directory.
On my Gutsy installation, line 105 of /usr/sbin/update-fonts-dir looks
like this:
XDIRS="/usr/share/fonts/X11/$1 /usr/lib/X11/fonts/$1"
It would seem that the latter part should be /usr/lib/fonts/X11/$1
instead, but I have not attempted to confirm whether this is correct
and/or sufficient. Perhaps the XDIRS should be different depending on
whether you are running with --x11r7-layout or not?
FWIW, I looked in the corresponding Debian buig database for an upstream
bug, but couldn't find one.
