Test plan followed on a Pi 5 8GB, Pi 4 4GB, and a Pi Zero 2W. All went according to plan: broken symlink observed prior to upgrade, fixed symlink after, wifi continued to operate after reboot on all boards (esp. Zero 2W, which should be the only one affected by this change).
