To get the ~/pinentry-kwallet.debug file, you have to edit the pinentry- kwallet script and change iodebug=0 to iodebug=1 near the beginning of the file. This is because with the debug setting, it logs passwords in cleartext, so it is actively hard to enable.
The have_lc_type message I will investigate. Wayland was never supported: kwalletcli checks for $DISPLAY before running. I asked around, and seems like checking for $WAYLAND_DISPLAY in addition should fix that.
