Public bug reported:
The desktop froze on Ubuntu 26.04. The system required an abrupt reboot.
Persistent journal logs show an NVIDIA kernel mode-setting deadlock, not
an OOM or kernel panic:
- kernel: INFO: task KMS thread:5951 blocked for more than 122 seconds
- KMS thread was blocked on a semaphore likely last held by nvidia-modeset/:1075
- Stack references nvidia_modeset, nvidia_drm, ApplyModeSetConfig and
nvWriteGpEntry
- The hung task continued to be reported for at least 1228 seconds.
Affected versions:
- Kernel: 7.0.0-29-generic
- NVIDIA open kernel module: 595.84
- Ubuntu 26.04
- Hybrid graphics: Intel i915 + NVIDIA GPU
No OOM, kernel panic, or clean shutdown was recorded. CPU and memory use
were normal during the incident.
After reboot, NVIDIA logs also reported SBIOS/platform errors and an
EDID read warning for DP-0.
