Public bug reported:

The external display disconnected during a power-management resume path
and could not be detected again until a restart/power cycle. This
coincided with the NVIDIA GPU being lost from PCIe; it was not an
ordinary monitor hotplug failure.

This is the observed event order from the previous boot journal (local
time, UTC-7):

At 10:43:02, ACPI power-on for the PCIe path timed out:
ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PC00.PEG1.PXP._ON due to previous error
(AE_AML_LOOP_TIMEOUT)

At 10:43:03–10:43:05, PCIe link recovery failed:
pcieport 0000:00:01.0: broken device, retraining non-functional downstream link
at 2.5GT/s
pcieport 0000:00:01.0: retraining failed
pcieport 0000:00:01.0: Data Link Layer Link Active not set in 100 msec

At 10:43:05, the NVIDIA driver reported:
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 79, GPU has fallen off the bus.
NVRM: gpuPowerManagementResume: GSP boot failed at resume (bootMode 0x1): 0x65
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 154, GPU recovery action changed from 0x0 (None) to
0x1 (GPU Reset Required)

Later in the same boot, suspend hung. At 11:13:50, nvidia-suspend.service
began. Starting at 11:13:55 and repeating every five seconds through 11:16:00,
nvidia-modeset emitted:
nvidia-modeset: ERROR: GPU:0: Error while waiting for GPU progress:
0x0000c67d:0 2:0:4048:4040

The graphical system did not recover; normal reboot requests conflicted
with the pending NVIDIA suspend/resume jobs, and the machine required a
forced restart/power cycle.

Environment:
- Ubuntu 26.04 LTS
- Kernel: 7.0.0-29-generic / package 7.0.0-29.29
- Hardware: MSI Stealth GS66 12UGS
- BIOS: E16V5IFB.10A
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU, PCI ID 10de:24a0
- Package: nvidia-driver-595-open 595.84-0ubuntu0.26.04.1
- NVIDIA driver version: 595.84

The journal establishes the sequence: an ACPI/PCIe/GPU-loss failure
occurred during resume, followed later by a suspend hang while the
driver waited for GPU progress. It does not establish whether the
underlying cause is firmware, kernel PCIe power management, or NVIDIA
driver code.
