@Ryan: "Root cause is a packaging error, not a bad firmware build" As Sebastian pointed out, the firmware file Ubuntu provided does not match the upstream linux-firmware version (that was last updated two months ago), so this may be both. FWIW, Debian unstable still has the symlink.
