Public bug reported:

Starting in 26.04, Ubuntu's package repository started carrying
OpenResty LuaJIT instead of the upstream LuaJIT. Up until very recently,
this was perfectly acceptable and totally fine as every possible
argument could have been made that OpenResty's version was just better
and could be dropped in without any obvious compatibility hazard
whatsoever. As of LuaJIT commit
https://github.com/LuaJIT/LuaJIT/commit/a2ce8114f107464473070427e69e84f4923bd08a
that has changed. This commit was made on July 18th, 2026. OpenResty's
repository appears as though it intentionally does not contain this
commit, having some manually picked commits since that date which do not
include the syntax backports:
https://github.com/openresty/luajit2/commits/v2.1-agentzh/

I've raised an issue on Resty's repository:
https://github.com/openresty/luajit2/issues/273 and am raising one here
as well out of an abundance of caution. I can't actually say with any
certainty this is intentional or not on Resty's part, which is why I
asked, and this also does not appear to be an active compatibility
hazard in any ubuntu packages yet, but there's a possibility it may be a
material long-term compatibility issue with applications that otherwise
would have been perfectly fine depending on the luajit package on either
24.04 or 26.04. I am earnestly unfamiliar with Ubuntu's packaging model
so I don't know how likely or soon this problem might happen, but it
could be an issue very quickly and easily with the way things are at the
moment.

** Affects: luajit (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
