For X crashes/lockups, we need either detailed steps to reproduce the
issue or a full backtrace. I'm guessing since you described the crashes
as random, the former may be hard to do, however since you can ssh into
the machine after a lockup, the latter should be doable. Directions for
getting a backtrace can be found from the troubleshooting section of
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X.
