Is there any progress or decision on this ? As remarked in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/build- essential/+bug/2158696, uutils is not only the default but in fact the *only* available implementation of the coreutils in Ubuntu 26.04, so it being buggy is a serious problem.
