I'm a bit at a loss at this point because I don't know how to change a boot parameter and I do not know why installing a different mainline kernel is failing other than I might not know how to do it right and installing the kernel incorrectly. How do I add a boot parameter like i915.enable_dpcd_backlight=0? I tried opening the grub and using E to edit the grub options and added a line that read "i915.enable_dpcd_backlight=0" but this did not help, either.
