The patch looks a bit overkill, but the basic way of doing this looks
good. I finally got some time to integrate and test it, so hopefully
I'll have the fixes uploaded soon. (It's a shame I couldn't get time
before, since this will almost certainly miss 26.04.1, but at least
26.04.2 should be better.)
