Hi Danilo,

I did a small comparison using only the data from my own report,
specifically these two attachments:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2164910/+attachment/5994909/+files/kernel-
freeze-2026-08-24.log

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2164910/+attachment/5994912/+files/linux-
amdgpu-freeze.apport

I also compared them with the clean AMDGPU initialization from the
reboot immediately after the hard freeze.

What stands out in my case is that the last relevant kernel messages
before the system stops are:

amdgpu: [gfxhub0] retry page fault

followed by

VM_L2_PROTECTION_FAULT_STATUS:0x00341051

for a GPU context belonging to firefox-bin. After that, there are no
further kernel messages indicating a GPU reset, job timeout, EDID
failure, or any visible recovery attempt before the hard reboot.

On the following boot, the same kernel initializes AMDGPU and Display
Core normally again.

My current interpretation is therefore that this report points more
strongly toward the GFXHUB / GPUVM / UTCL2 path than toward a clear
display-resume / EDID failure.

I do see broader similarities with #2142389 in the sense that both
involve AMDGPU, kernel regressions, and hard display/system failures on
AMD hardware. However, based on the data currently available in my own
logs, I do not think there is enough evidence yet to claim that both
reports share the same root cause.

So for now I would treat this only as a potentially related data point
rather than trying to place #2164910 directly into the same regression
class as #2142389.

If you find matching traces in your logs or in other reports, that would
of course make the relationship much more interesting.

Thanks again for taking a look.
