Thanks for looking into this! Attached is the sanitized /var/log/dist-upgrade/
tarball (hostname and username redacted).
One thing I noticed while searching for related reports: there's an open bug
against rust-coreutils, #2165041 ("cp: Missing setuid flag in su and sudo"),
tagged "stonking" with milestone ubuntu-26.10. The symptom described there
matches mine exactly (setuid bit silently dropped), though I understand from
your message that this specific issue shouldn't affect Noble->Resolute
upgrades. Flagging it in case the affected coreutils version range turns out
to be broader than currently assumed — might be worth a cross-check, might
be a coincidence.
Happy to run any additional diagnostics if that helps narrow it down.
