Public bug reported:

I am on Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS with Mutter version 50.1-0ubuntu2.2.

I create a remote desktop (in Settings -> System -> Remote Desktop),
connect to it (with mstsc on Windows), and end up with a virtual monitor
(using the join mode in Settings -> Screen Display -> Multiple Display).

I then go to Settings -> Screen Display, select my virtual monitor, and
use the toggle switch to disable the monitor and press apply. GNOME
Shell then crashes, through a NULL pointer dereference in
meta_virtual_monitor_get_crtc_mode.

Instead, it shouldn't crash.

I have filed a bug report upstream, with more details, at:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/work_items/5046

I have looked through other issues and they involve different code,
features, state transitions, etc.
