Public bug reported: I am on Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS with Mutter version 50.1-0ubuntu2.2.
I create a remote desktop (in Settings -> System -> Remote Desktop), connect to it (with mstsc on Windows), and end up with a virtual monitor (using the join mode in Settings -> Screen Display -> Multiple Display). I then go to Settings -> Screen Display, select my virtual monitor, and use the toggle switch to disable the monitor and press apply. GNOME Shell then crashes, through a NULL pointer dereference in meta_virtual_monitor_get_crtc_mode. Instead, it shouldn't crash. I have filed a bug report upstream, with more details, at: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/work_items/5046 I have looked through other issues and they involve different code, features, state transitions, etc. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 26.04 Package: mutter-common 50.1-0ubuntu2.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 7.0.0-31.31-generic 7.0.14 Uname: Linux 7.0.0-31-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.34.1-0ubuntu0.1 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Sep 12 17:21:12 2026 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 26.04 "Resolute Raccoon" - Release amd64 (20260423.1) PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) SHELL=/bin/bash TERM=xterm-256color XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> SourcePackage: mutter UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug resolute wayland-session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2167179 Title: Disabling a virtual monitor crashes GNOME Shell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/2167179/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
